Adrian Renard
Adrian is the second son of the Renard family, a noble family of the northern kingdom. The land used to be a wilderness before his family tamed it off old, and rid it of undeads and monsters. The family have a long tradition of warriors fighting for the land and commoners. Because of an agreement with a Circle of Druids inside their land, one of the children of the family must train with the druids to link the family to the land, and earn the further respect and cooperation of the druids. Since Adrian is not the heir, he was given this task, something he takes very serious as it is to help both his family and the commoners to live properly with the land. He has just finished all his training with the druids, and has been sent out for a years test by trial, to travel the world and help natures cause wherever needed.
He is a serious, polite and diligent person, that expects the same of others. He can come off as haughty and arrogant due to his upbringing as a noble, as he expects to be listened to and obeyed. He believes full heartedly that nature, commoner and noble can live together in a perfect synergy harmony.
Adrian is a tall young man slightly on the thin side. His face is sun tanned, with his very light blonde, almost white, hair at half length. Heavy eyebrows which creates a permanent scowl and a strong chin with a short beard dominates his face. His hair and beard appears unkempt and wild when out in the wilderness, but is trimmed and styled when given the opportunity.
When in civilization Adrian prefers to dress in fine clothes, he is especially fond of the older style black suits. He prefers using the traditional Renard colors of Black and red when possible, and almost always finishes the touch with his black cape with red inside and the family emblem on the clasp.
When out adventuring he uses studded leather armor colored black, with his cape, black with red inside and the family insignia on the clasp. He has adapter a black explorers outfit with pieces from a black courtiers outfit, it retains most most the use of the explorers outfit, but he uses a courtier style west on top of the armor, that resembles the old suits he likes. He both enjoys the more noble look it gives, as well as believes that it is a nobles duty to uphold a standard of image. He always wears hiw walking cane that also doubles as a club.
People sometimes comments that he appears like a vampire from old stories, and Adrian found this funny so he kept the habbit. The red and black colors are traditional for the family after the first Renard adopted the colors after saving the King from an undead attack, black for the mourning of the King's family that died and friends that sacrifices themselves, and red for the vampire he slayed in doing so.
You're the second son of Richter Renard the 4th Count of Wygol, your older brother Jonathan is the heir, and Charlotte the younger sister is spoiled and sits reading books all day. Due to the old agreement with the druids you're the pact-sworn of this generation, which means you have to go train with the druids in order to serve both the land itself, as well as your family.
Your family has never shied away from work and duty, and from young age you've been thought to take responsibility for yourself and others, and do what must be done to get a job done. Training in combat, education of all types, and the whole family physically helping the commoners when they need help has prepared you quite well for a life of hardship.
So even if the life as a druid includes hard days, dangerous tasks and more responsibility than most people can shake a stick at, you're not daunted by it. But you admit to yourself that you sure miss some of the things you've learned to take for granted: Warm soft beds, hot baths, warm and plentiful food served with wine, servants that wash your clothes for you, etc. But you hold yourself to too high standards to whine.
You remind yourself each night that your brother doesn't have it any easier, your father doesn't believe in soft heirs, and is working him to the bone in the militia where he is training to become an officer. He probably sleeps just as bad and eat even worse than you do, and works even harder.
thankfully you rather enjoy the task. To both serve the family honor, without having to deal with some of those haughty aristocrats you know your brother will have to handle eventually. You get to work directly toward helping the land and the people work together. And to work toward the Perfect Synergy Harmony, where nature, commoners and nobles alike work together in balance to help each others. Despite the many challenges of the land, you believe that you and your family can make this the greatest place in the world to live.
Trevor Renard was a warrior and scout serving the King of the north, and was guarding his highness and his family as they went hunting with several nobles in the wilderness that would later become Wygol village. The land was known to be wild and dangerous, filled with monsters and even undead. And a Vampire had set an ambush trying to take control of the King, by controling some of the nobles to get close, and at the same time attack with monsters and undead.
Trevor was leading the attack against the monsters on one side, when he noticed trouble near the King's wagon, and gathered his group and ran back. Just in time to see the Vampires minions killing most of the Kings guards, and the Queen laying dead in the hands of the Vampire. After a fierce fight they had driven back most of the undead at the cost of almost every soldier there, and Trevor battled against the Vampire, and managed just barely to defeat it. Knowing a bit about Vampires he gathered what men remained and searched the area until they found the Vampires base and destroyed it utterly.
The King grief ridden over the loss, and that some of his own nobles had betrayed him, bestowed upon Trevor the title of Count and gave him the lands they stood upon to guard and protect. The last thing the King said before travelling back to his castle was: “If Nobles where like you Sir Renard, I would not fear for this country.” and Trevor took this to heart, making his family creed: “Diligence and Duty, for the King, Land, People and Family.”
Count Trevor Renard spent years hunting down and fighting monsters and undeads, slowly clearing out the land, and starting the village of Wygol as his new home at the cite where he had fought against the Vampire. He became a renown Monster/Undead hunter, and often went out alone for several days, only to come back with several kills to his name.
Simon Renard son of Trevor was a leader and warrior. While his deeds may not sound as spectacular as his father, he nevertheless fought a hard campaign against the remaining monsters and undeads in the land, and finally cleared out every stronghold and lair. The land was deemed safe, and he started construction of several small villages, a road network, and some much needed industry to help on the economic since the new King was likely to stop the funding of the new county soon.
Some of his most memorable battles where against werewolves, as he fought several of them alone and won.
Christopher Renard the son of Simon was a strong supporter of both the faith and the military. Both a warrior priest of <GOD>, and a general in the Kingdoms army. While he didn't do much for the county itself, he was well liked inside the army for his practical and down to earth attitude.
Richter Renard first son of Christopher was still a young man when a cult of evil priests attacked Wygol village, and kidnapped several young women for ritual sacrifice. One of the girls kidnapped was a childhood friend named Annette that Richter had feelings for, so Richter and his younger brother Julius set out to save them before their father could stop them. Both brothers already accomplished hunters and trackers found them in no time and attacked. The only one left being the high priest he barely managed to complete a ritual and turn himself into a Vampire, after a fierce battle Richter and Julius managed to bring it down and destroy the remains.
Life has been peaceful in the County since then, and Richter married Annette some years later, and Julius became the pact-sworn.
Jonathan Renard is the heir, and is training with the army to become an officer. He is a laid back and relaxed person, that gets serious when it is needed. He has worked hard from young age with training and education, and is already an accomplished warrior, hunter, scout, and has a good head for military logistics and tactics. As used to hard work, sleeping outside on rocks and living on field rations and stale water as any soldier he commands, he is a firm believer in the family creed and to lead from the front. He has medium blonde hair cut short around the ears, and is considered the better looking of the brothers. He and Adrian has a friendly rivalry about who endures the worst in their training. Just as his brother he is fiercely protective of their little sister.
Adrian Renard is the second born and pact-sworn like his uncle Julius before him, and just finished his training to become a druid and about to begin his trial. Very polite and serious, though lacking some of the laid back attitude of his brother he sometimes comes off as haughty. His education has been split between multiple subjects and he had a hard time keeping up at times. But he has adopted and merged the belief of both a noble and a druid, that nature, commoners and nobles can live together in perfect synergy. He is friendly competitive with his brother, and very protective of his little sister.
Charlotte Renard is the daughter and third born, not being bound by duty like her brothers, she has dedicated her life to education and knowledge. She is quite a bit of a bookworm, and her brothers often tease her that if it wasn't for their father insisting that all the children train with the soldiers every day, she would have become a weak old hag by now. She has quite a temper and her brothers love teasing her to see things fly, she has a impish sense of humor, but is actually a caring person. She often have to arbitrate for her brothers in their competitions. She aspires to become a wizard and a sage.
Uncle Julius is still actively serving as pact-sworn for the druids, and running around the entire county checking up on things and rooting out problems before they can start. He is, like the rest of the family, very serious about what he does, and a hard-bitten veteran hunter and tracker, that prefers the company of other outdoors men to courtiers and fancy parties. He has a rough sense of humor, is practical and down to earth, and behaves more like a commoner than a noble. He is respected among all the commoners in the land, but not by nobles of other families.
The County of Wygol is named after its first settlement, the Village of Wygol. Located almost on top of where the first Count Trevor Renard fought the Vampire to protect the King.
The land itself is a wast wilderness with mountains, heavy forests and cold tundras. Abundant wildlife, lots of predators and other dangerous animals. And despite the best attempts over the years, still a few monsters and undeads hide around in caves and shadows over the land. Despite attempts at patrolling and keeping the lands clear, there is simply to much of it, and to little settlements to maintain the number of patrols. The Count depends mainly on the effort of the militia with its many trained rangers and scouts, but also on assistance from the druidic circle.
In the largest forest is a series of stone formations and obelisks that serve as the home for the circle of druids, they are an ancient organization of druids and other people working for the sake of nature and balance in the world. The first Count encountered them in his travels while trying to clear out monsters from the forest, and after some discussion they decided they could work better together than against each others. This was the start of the pact, which would not be completed until the second Count, that worked out the details and made the agreement as it stands.
The Renards gives the druids the power to act as wardens of all wilderness in the county, gives the druids one position as an advisor to the Count, must consult with the druids in things relating to the wilderness like building roads, hunting limits and clearing timber etc. In exchange the druids must accept that the Renards are the protectors and guardians of the entire county, that the Renards are responsible for upholding the laws and justice, and gets one advisor on the druid circle.
In addition to bind the family to the land, one of the children of each generation must become pact-sworn, that is to train with the druids and become a protector of the land itself. Both parties acknowledge that this person must be allowed to be loyal to both the Family and the druids, and thus serve the land first and foremost. This is usually the second born son, as the first born is the heir, though not always. The Renard family being natural warriors usually train rangers, but sometimes other disciplines as well, such as Adrian that has trained to become a druid.
The land is plagued by several predators from wolves, bears, puma, coyotes to wolverines, that can and will turn on humans if desperate or hungry enough. Several flying predators like eagles, hawks, bats and even rarely vultures. The usual prey are small animals like: marmots, hares, badgers, foxes, weasels, squirrels, mice, hamsters and voles. But there are also larger animals like moose, caribou, bison, deer and goats up in the mountains.
Despite the best efforts of the militia and the circle, several monsters and undeads keep finding their ways back to the county, to create problems for the inhabitants. Many joke that they must really like the place, and rumors speak of all kinds of mystical artifacts that draws them to the area, or evil creatures drawing them inn. And perhaps it isn't strange that there are so many rumors of vampires and werewolves in the county, considering the bloody history the Renards have had with them over the years.
There are a few scattered villages around, the land is hard to farm and mostly lends itself to hunting, fishing and lumbering where possible, and all these are restricted by the druids so the land is not popular to settle. Being out of the common trade ways and considered in the middle of nowhere by everyone in the towns doesn't help. The county has a reputation for being a good place for people that likes to work and can deal with some roughness, also the Renard's reputation as down to earth and doesn't interfere much with every day life unless there is a reason to it earns a few new people every year.
The main settlement is a village named Wygol, it is the home of the Renards and is located centrally in the county. It has a church, a general shop, a blacksmith, a small restaurant, and even sells some nice dresses, jewellery and medicines. It has one of the few farmable areas in the entire county, that doesn't get destroyed by the snow and ice every year. The Renards live in a mansion right next to town, that qualifies as a small keep more than a mansion, they have also extended this to build a wall around the mansion and the inner part of the village as a defensive measure.
